Since 1978, the Alzheimer Society has provided support, information and education to people with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, families, physicians and health-care providers. The society works to improve the quality of life for Canadians affected by Alzheimer's disease and has locations in 140 local communities across Canada.
The Alzheimer Society provides a wide range of information -- in print, videos and audiotapes on Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, warning signs, diagnosis and treatment, caregiving, risk factors, research and other related topics. The Society has resources designed specifically for the person with the disease, as well as materials for family and health-care professionals. Information meetings and workshops are also offered.
Guidelines for Care
First developed in 1992 by the Alzheimer Society of Canada, the Guidelines for Care represent principles for care that all caregivers in any care setting should strive to achieve.
Alzheimer's Foundation for Caregiving in Canada
Provides knowledge and support to help ease the burden of this brain disorder on individuals with the disease and their families through the following services: information about Alzheimer's disease and related illnesses, caregiving strategies and behavioural issues; comprehensive educational materials; conferences and workshops. AFCC publishes brochures and care ADvantage⢠Canada, a free quarterly magazine designed for caregivers of people with Alzheimer's disease and related illnesses.
